National body donates $25,000 to bushfire appeal

Greyhounds Australasia has donated $25,000 to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

This is in addition to donations made by all Greyhound Racing Victoria Clubs, totalling in excess of $100,000 and other contributions sent direct to the Red Cross from Greyhound Authorities in Australia and New Zealand.

Chairman of Greyhounds Australasia, Jan Wilson said, “We share the sadness of the bushfire survivors and the grief of the many families who lost loved ones, pets and property.”

“Greyhounds Australasia members and the industry have come together to pledge their financial support behind the appeal,” said Craig Taberner, Chief Executive Officer of Greyhounds Australasia.

We would like to thank all Australian and New Zealand Greyhound Authorities, and participants for their contributions to the Appeal.

Greyhounds Australasia encourages the greyhound industry to continue with their generosity during this time of adversity.

Greyhounds Australasia (GA) Chief executive Scott Parker today welcomed the NSW government’s decision to overturn its ban on greyhound racing.

“The national greyhound racing industry is extremely pleased that the NSW government has listened to participants and the community and taken the decision to allow greyhound racing to continue.

Greyhounds Australasia CEO Scott Parker today expressed shock that the NSW government had decided to shut down greyhound racing in that state.

“I’m shocked this has happened and disappointed for the many thousands of people in the NSW industry that have only ever done the right thing.

The Board of Greyhounds Australasia (GA) has approved new and amended national rules (GARs) effective 1 July 2016. See attached.

The objective of these new and amended rules is to further strengthen industry integrity and the welfare of all greyhounds whether racing, being prepared to race or retired.
